Momataaj’s Unit
Secret Projects met Momataaj through Justice and Care, an international anti-human trafficking organisation. It was through Justice and Care that Momataaj had learnt how to sew.
Momataaj is a survivor of human trafficking. After everything that happened to her, she returned to her village, which is east of Kolkata and 4km from the Bangladeshi border. Here, there are scarce employment opportunities for women. While there is a brick kiln in the village, it is small and mainly employees men.
Determined to prevent other women from being trafficked, Momataaj set up this maker network to provide women with access to an income-generating activity and therefore lessen the likelihood of them being targeted.
