Secret Projects is female led and we honour all women around the globe this International Women's Day 2022

Before we begin our post, we would like to say that at this unbelievably difficult time for the country of Ukraine, we stand shoulder to shoulder with all women and girls caught up in this frightening conflict as well as all men too. And everyone around the globe who is living in a war zone.

Secret Projects is female led and proud!
On this International Women's Day (IWD), we thought we would take the opportunity to highlight one of the things we are so proud of at Secret Projects – that we are female led. Not only that, we are a group of women who are at a variety stages of our lives but all still working and impassioned by what we do.
Meet us!
Banke Ajayi - Co-founder and Global Director of Finance and Operations
Retired from her career as a leader and senior Finance Manager for large corporate organisations, as well as her CEO role for a charity, Banke wasn't ready to put her feet up!  We are so privileged to have a women with her financial background to lead this aspect of Secret Projects.

Banke's family and her faith are at the centre of all she does and she is a devoted, hands on grandmother to 5 grandchildren, who she regularly looks after for her daughters. Although, like all grandparents the joy is underpinned by the fact that the kids can be handed back at the end of the day!
Sumathi - Director and General Manager of Social Power India
Heading up the team and operation in India, Sumathi has a long and successful career in leading teams as a senior manager and we are so grateful that she decided to join us and add Secret Projects to her CV.

Sumathi is a single mother to 4 children and is also a grandmother. With working full time, looking out for her kids and helping with her grandchildren, her hands are very full. However, she reliably tells us, she wouldn't have it any other way.
Fritha Global Co-founder,CEO and Head of Sales
Secret Projects was Fritha's dream that she bought to life in 2014. Since then, she has devoted so much energy and vision to the business and without wishing to put labels on people, she could be described as a career women, with a strong desire to help others and empower women economically.

Fritha met her partner, Olaf 3 years ago and since then has gone on to have a sweet little girl called Lagertha, who is just approaching her first birthday, so Fritha is now a working mum. A big change in your 40's but she is loving it.
Lissy - Quality Controller
Lissy is an expert quality controller and trainer with years of experience under her belt. Her calm and reassuring manner means that the women who she helps train to make Secret Products (the name we give to our Ranges of clothing and homeware), receive the best possible instruction.

Lissy is a wife, mother and grandmother and also has elderly parents that she cares for. Like the rest of the team, she has lots to juggle and we are glad to be able to juggle alongside her.
Margaret- Director of Communications
Again, without wishing to put labels on people, Margaret's stage of life is probably best described as being an 'empty nester' with her 22 year old son no longer around very much, meaning she is no longer needed in the same way she was and as a result has more time!

Margaret worked part-time for many years, mainly in the charity sector but since having more time available has begun to work full time, which she is adjusting to. It's a bit of a shock, however she is thoroughly enjoying this new phase of life.

Our first destash!

Our first destash!

What to do on a rainy Sunday? Hold our very first destash! You may be asking what a destash is?  In short, it's a call out to people to go through old . . . sewing supplies and fabric etc. and donate it to a good cause. With that good cause being Secret Projects! We set up in the Pulborough Village Hall (which is close to where our Business Unit is), and, through various advertising methods, the word had spread and we were delighted to welcome scores of people who came along with their very gratefully received donations. Donations weren't just brought in on the day, we had parcels sent to us and others dropped supplies round to our CEO's house in Pulborough ahead of the official destash day. In total we collected 325 kilos of delici0us pre-loved sewing supplies. Much of the fabric donated has been sorted and will be made up into our ever popular and best selling scrap packs available through our eBay and Etsy Stores. In fact, we now have over 30 different scrap packs to purchase and more will be added, so do keep visiting our stores. We are still taking donations and if you do have any fabric or pre-loved sewing supplies, please do get in touch via fritha@secretprojects.org And of course the most enormous thank you everyone who donated to, and also helped us run our very first destash! More to come! Let's hear it for destashing!   Image: offering a cup of tea to all who came along to the destash was one way of us saying a big thank you.

We would LOVE you to donate any unwanted sewing supplies to us!

We would LOVE you to donate any unwanted sewing supplies to us!

We can make such good use of your pre-loved sewing supplies We have added various items of pre-loved sewing supplies to our online stores, including . . . scrap fabrics and buttons for the past few years and it has developed into a small but very good source of income for our Community Benefit Society. The pre-loved sewing supplies market is only getting stronger and is something we are keen to develop and grow and are therefore putting out an 'ask' to our customers and supporters (and of course, anyone else who reads this!) for your old sewing items. We would LOVE them! Ideas for sewing supplies donations! From scrap fabric, to buttons, to pins, to needles, to embroidery equipment, we would adore to talk to you about what you have. Sewing items can often have sentimental value - in fact, our Comms Manager, Margaret was just telling us about a pin cushion she has of her mother's that she could only give away to someone who would really appreciate, and make good use of. Maybe this has resonated with you. So, if you do have sewing supplies you would like to donate, please email Fritha Vincent Mason at: fritha@secretprojects.org. We would just LOVE your pre-loved sewing supplies!
